927 Beer Company

Locals know that the number ‘927’ refers to Cambria’s long-held phone prefix, reminiscent of the days before smartphones. (In fact, because Cambria only had one prefix, people would often exchange just the last four digits of their number, assuming they were preceded by 927.) So the name 927 Beer Company really reflects the vibe of this family-owned and operated brewery. Small batches of beer are brewed right across the street — so small, in fact, they call it a nanobrewery, rather than a microbrewery. Founder Aaron Wharton brews to style on regular offerings like Toyon American Amber Ale, Pinedorado Pale Ale, and Old #23 Robust Porter. These year-round brews have low alcohol by volume, hovering around 5.5 % ABV. And while 927 does produce IPAs, they aren’t the backbone of the menu, as is the case with many California breweries. IPAs are just one style among many, including farmhouse saison, oatmeal stout, sours and pilsners. For more extreme styles, go for the seasonal and one-off choices, like Dark Sour Saison or the Comatose Tripel IPA at 12% ABV. The brewery is located in Cambria’s West Village, within walking distance of Moonstone Beach. The taproom is intimate and cozy, and includes a patio that’s perfect for sipping and relaxing in fine weather. Alternatively, you can also pick up growlers to go —  a nice option for enjoying on your balcony at your lodging. The taproom does not offer food, but 927 Beer Company invites visitors to bring their own to enjoy with the beers. The owners highly encourage guests to support local restaurants, many of which can be found mere steps away from the brewery. Ask whoever pours your beer for recommendations, and you’re sure to find just about anything you want. And while doggy friends are totally welcome at the brewery, 927 Beer Company is a 21-years-and-older establishment.
