Astronomy Night & Stargazing at SLO Botanical Garden

This event is designed for beginners and families and no prior astronomy experience is required. Join the Central Coast Astronomical Society for a relaxed and welcoming evening of stargazing at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden.

Guests will explore the night sky with telescopes and guided viewing, taking a close-up look at highlights such as Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s cloud bands and moons, the Moon in stunning detail, and deep-sky objects like Orion’s M42 Nebula. Whether you’re brand new to astronomy or already enjoy looking up, this is a fun and approachable experience for all ages.

The evening begins at 5:30 pm with a short, engaging astronomy presentation that introduces the night sky and previews what will be observed. At 6:00 pm, guests head outside to the telescope viewing area for hands-on stargazing, which continues until 8:30 pm. CCAS astronomers will provide telescopes and guidance, and guests are welcome to bring binoculars.

This program is rain or shine. If clouds roll in, the evening will continue indoors with interactive astronomy activities, demonstrations and hands-on exploration. Regardless of weather, guests can expect an educational and enjoyable night under the stars. Tickets are required, and space is limited.
