Brown Butter Cookie Co. in Cayucos is a must stop

Next to the beach, Brown Butter Cookie Company is one of the places I always stop. And every time we go to any beach at all, my 4-year-old daughter asks if it’s the town where the cookie store is. My first experience with a brown butter cookie was from the Brown Butter Cookie Co. and I have not tried another since. The combination of sea salt and sweetness is what I love about the cookies.
When you first walk into the cookie shop at 98 N. Ocean St. you will immediately be given a sample of the original brown butter cookie and followed by any of the following brown butter cookies: cocoa, coconut lime, espresso, citrus and gluten-free cocoa mint or traditional cookies: chocolate chunk, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter and lemon sugar.
While customers peruse the merchandise and tasting the
cookies, employees sit just behind the front counter making the famous brown butter cookies. The company was started by sisters Traci Nickson and Christa Hozie when they launched their company online in December 2008. They opened their first store in Cayucos in January 2009.
Besides the samples, I love stopping in the storefront to see what new flavors are out. Sure, I can find out on its website, www.brownbuttercookies.com, or on Facebook, but isn’t it
better to just show up and find out with my taste buds? I think so.
The company’s cookies are so popular, that they are opening a second location, this time in downtown Paso Robles on the corner of 12th and Park streets. While the full line of cookies and merchandise will be sold in Paso Robles, the cookies will only be made in Cayucos and transported to the other store. The new location is slated to open sometime this fall.
