Cambria Discovery Loop ~ Historical Architecture & Gardens
Cambria features many historical buildings and gardens that add character to this quaint seaside village.
- Begin your loop at Andy’s Garden, a privately maintained park on Park Hill. From Highway 1 southbound, turn right onto Windsor Boulevard and follow Windsor to Leighton Street. Turn left onto Leighton Street and continue uphill to Guildford Drive and find the garden at the north-east corner of the intersection.
- Continue on Hillcrest Drive and turn left onto Oakhurst Drive, then right onto Greystone Way. Here you’ll find Greystone Manor, an English Tudor mansion that is the largest home in Cambria and is available to rent.
- Staying on Greystone Way, continue to Hillcrest Drive and then turn left onto Hillcrest Drive, turn right onto Hartford Street, left onto Pineknolls Drive and then right onto Main Street. On Main Street you’ll see the Veterans’ Memorial Building along with the Pinedorado Grounds and Jailhouse.
- At the same location you’ll find the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse Fresnel Lens. The original lens, constructed in France in 1872, is on display along with the clockwork mechanism.
- Staying at 1000 Main Street, take time to explore the Rotary Peace Through Service Garden, dedicated in 2014 by Cambria Rotary clubs and the American Legion.
- Travel south on Main Street to Cambria Road and Highway 1. Travel south on Highway 1 and then turn left on Burton Drive and follow Burton Drive to Patterson Place. Turn left onto Patterson Place and park at Cambria Pines Lodge. The Cambria Pines Lodge Gardens are to the right and open to the public.
- Take Patterson Place back to Burton Drive and turn left on Burton Drive and take a sharp left to stay on Burton Drive where it intersects with Eton Road. Continue to follow Burton Drive until it reaches Main Street. Turn right onto Main Street and the intersection with Bridge Street. Here you’ll find the entrance to Santa Rosa Chapel, Gardens and Cemetery. The Chapel, built in 1870, is on the National Historic Registry as a landmark.
